The availability of expressed sequence data derived from gene discovery programmes enables mining for simple sequence repeats (SSRs), providing useful genetic markers for crop improvement. These markers are inexpensive, require minimal labour to produce and can frequently be associated with functionally annotated genes. This study reports on the development and characterization of expressed sequence tag (EST)–SSR markers in the cultivated strawberry, Fragaria×ananassa. Fourteen primer pairs were assessed for polymorphism in 13 F.×ananassa genotypes. The markers show reliable amplification and considerable polymorphism, demonstrating the utility of EST–SSRs for genetic analysis of commercial strawberry germplasm.  相似文献

The social behaviour of Australian Magpies Gymnorhina tibicen was studied at Linton in the Manawatu district, New Zealand, from June 1978 to November 1982. Territorial magpies defended all-purpose areas averaging 5 ha in size, and there was no correlation between territory size and the number of occupants. The mean adult survival rate was 0.85, and average annual productivity was 0.96 juveniles per breeding female. Nomadic flocks formed in the spring and foraged on open, treeless pasture. They mainly comprised 1–3-year-old magpies which did not breed. Territories were defended by monogamous pairs, and by groups ranging from three to six individuals. Some territorial groups probably originated in the flock, and may therefore have consisted of unrelated birds. Other territorial groups formed when juveniles did not disperse away from the natal territory, and were called family groups. Non-breeders did not help at the nest in any group, and there was no difference in the production of young by females breeding in group-defended territories compared with those in pair-defended territories. The opportunity to disperse into non-territorial flocks may have liberated Australian Magpies from cooperation.  相似文献

Shoots were induced on callus derived from sprout sections andpetiole slices of an inbred parent line of Brussels sprout (Brassicaoleracea L. var gemmifera D.C.). The shoots, when excised andtransferred to fresh medium, enlarged and formed roots. Theseplantlets could be transferred to soil or their number increasedby a multiplication process involving the production of newshoots from the dormant lateral buds. Some of the plantletsderived from sprout callus were grown to maturity in the fieldand their morphology and chromosome number compared to seedgrown plants. There were no significant differences in sproutsize and stem diameter but there were significant differencesin plant shape. None of the plants in the field experiment showedpolyploidy. Plants derived from callus possessed an enhanced ability toform callus and redifferentiate when sections from these plantswere placed back on to nutrient medium.  相似文献

Abstract Population density estimates and patterns of habitat selection by sympatric red‐bellied pademelons (Thylogale billardierii (Marsupialia: Macropodidae)) and red‐necked wallabies (Macropus rufogriseus rufogriseus (Marsupialia: Macropodidae)) were examined within a patchy forestry environment in north‐west Tasmania. Population density of both species was relatively high. Selection indices from both population surveys and animal movement data showed that T. billardierii and M. rufogriseus had similar patterns of habitat selection at two spatio‐temporal scales; home range within the study area and habitats selected while foraging at night. Both species selected for young Eucalyptus nitens plantation with high weed‐cover within their home range. At night, T. billardierii and M. rufogriseus selected for open habitats (young plantation and grassland) and avoided closed habitats (native forest and 5–7 years old E. nitens plantation). There was no evidence for resource partitioning between species at these scales. In contrast, the two species differed in their selection for daytime sheltering habitat; T. billardierii selected native forest while M. rufogriseus selected older plantation. This may reflect differences in their predator avoidance strategies; that is, crypsis versus flight, rather than resource partitioning as a result of interspecific competition. The environment appears to be of high quality for both species, with patches of feeding and shelter habitats within close proximity of one another.  相似文献
